Board Games! Everyone has them at home, but almost no one knows where a board game comes from. Together with the Research Group on Prosperous Entrepreneurship of the Arnhem and Nijmegen University of Applied Sciences, the initiators of Meeples believe that this can change!
Meeples is curious about how the production and distribution chain of board games works and how it can be improved. There is already a lot of innovation happening in the field of product development for board games, but on the production and distribution side, there is still plenty of room for new initiatives. This aligns with the trend that transparency in the chain is becoming increasingly important for both business and private sectors. The production and sale of board games must grow along with the trend of conscious production, distribution, and responsible consumption.
Meeples, together with the Research Group, came up with an idea for process innovation. Could it be possible to change the production and distribution chain of board games once and for all? To investigate this, an HBO Take-off has been applied for and approved. This is a scheme that gives students, teachers, researchers, and professors the chance to investigate the feasibility of an innovative idea.
But who is Meeples exactly? Meeples is a board game company located in the municipalities of Zeewolde and Nijmegen. The driving forces behind it are Rients-Auke Rienstra and student entrepreneur Floris Toorenburg, who is studying Commercial Economics in Nijmegen. Meeples’ mission is to help everyone in the search for the perfect game with an honest and transparent chain.
This research fits well with the Research Group on Prosperous Entrepreneurship, as it investigates the identification and utilization of opportunities and how the regional ecosystem can support this. The focus is on the ‘broad SME sector’ in the Smart Region Arnhem-Nijmegen. The research will run from September 2022 to June 2023.
